Numerous irregularities, which both relevant NGOs and representatives of international observation missions pointed out, were recorded in the Dec. 17 elections in Serbia, but also during the election campaign. The irregularities became particularly noticeable in the vote for the Belgrade Assembly, due to a small difference in the number of votes between the two strongest coalitions. The ruling party’s election manipulation resulted in the leading opposition coalition’s refusal to recognize the results of the elections for the Belgrade Assembly and daily protest rallies launched on Dec. 18.
