Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on June 21 that she was not “criminalizing the protests” against violence in Belgrade and other Serbian cities, and that she respected the citizens participating in them.

Speaking at the session of the Serbian parliament, debating on the opposition’s motion for the dismissal of Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic, Brnabic said that “some of the organizers have turned the protests into show-business,” stating that the “Serbia Against Violence” was registered in a tavern called “Estrada” (show-business in Serbian) in Sabac.

“We have not criminalized the protests, nor will we. Their demands have nothing to do with the tragedies that took place – they are aimed at controlling the media market,” Brnabic said.

She stated that “an example of political irresponsibility is the fact that none of the opposition representatives had responded, for 26 days now,” to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s invitation for talks, and that they never officially proposed measures for overcoming the crisis.
