Tensions between representatives of the regime led by Aleksandar Vucic and its supporters on one side, and the rebelling students and opposition-leaning citizens on the other have again escalated in recent days, with the focus being on Novi Sad and Nis. In Novi Sad, students, activists and other citizens have for days been blocking the building housing a court and a prosecutor’s office, demanding the release of all arrested activists, while Nis was a “field of battle” during the weekend, when Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party and the protesting students simultaneously held rallies. The one largely preventing a lowering of tensions is Vucic with his inappropriate rhetoric, which is becoming increasingly sharp day in, day out.
