Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic faced a potential problem this week – the announced reconsideration of the status of his Serbian Progressive Party in the European People’s Party (EPP), which has for the past 10 years been its de facto mentor and protector in the European Union (EU). It happened just a few days after the attention of European officials was drawn by the police’s brutal treatment of demonstrators in Novi Sad and Vucic’s verbal attack on two members of the European Parliament who attended that protest.
