The social and political crisis in Serbia got a new dynamic after two irreconcilable parts of society (the Aleksandar Vucic-led regime and its opponents, led by the protesting students) separately marked the first anniversary of the deadly collapse of the concrete canopy at the Novi Sad railway station. What played a crucial role in this new dynamic is the decision by Dijana Hrka, whose son was killed in the canopy collapse, to go on a hunger strike near the pro-government tent encampment dubbed “Cacilend” (Caciland) in downtown Belgrade.
