A resolution of the situation Serbia is in due to the introduction of U.S. sanctions against oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) is still nowhere in sight. However, judging by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s public address of Nov. 25, during which he was insufficiently clear regarding certain issues, a solution should be known by mid-January. In that period, Serbia would certainly be in a much easier position if it received an operating license for NIS from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
