Viktor Orban’s defeat in the April 12 general election in Hungary is not good news for Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who is closely linked to Orban politically, economically and personally. Peter Magyar’s coming to power in Hungary will have a multidimensional effect on Serbia – the two countries’ relations will certainly change, Vucic’s position in the European Union will be weakened, and the fate of oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) and the direction of future activities of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians have been called into question.
