Result of U.S. Pressure

A sudden resignation by the international community’s High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, appears to be closely tied to his confrontation with U.S.  President Donald Trump’s administration. His stance on the Southern Gas Interconnection project, in which a company linked to Trump associates has a vested interest, effectively turned Washington against himself, as it clearly wants a more cooperative figure in the post. Meanwhile, Milorad Dodik’s authorities in Republika Srpska are openly celebrating Schmidt’s departure, advertising it as their own political victory.
