Protest in Belgrade on March 15 (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
The authorities led by Aleksandar Vucic last week announced the criminal prosecution of thousands of citizens in relation to an incident at the mass protest rally in Belgrade on March 15, 2025 – the use of a sonic weapon against the demonstrators. That is probably the most shocking move by the Vucic regime since its forming 14 years ago, given that it places the blame on the victims of the sonic weapon attack, accusing them that they organized a simulation of the incident. For now, however, it seems that the main objective of that campaign is political (to present the student movement as a terrorist one, intimidate political opponents and make their everyday life more difficult, and to suppress affairs that are unpleasant for the authorities), rather than the criminal prosecuting of citizens, despite such announcements.
