On July 8, the European Parliament adopted yet another strongly-worded resolution on Serbia, similar to the previous ones. On the other hand, the European Commission has taken a benevolent stance on the Aleksandar Vucic-led authorities, recommending that Cluster 3 in the membership negotiations between the EU and Serbia be opened already this month. The cluster, however, will not be opened, as the proposal was met with opposition from multiple EU member states, which took a similar position as the vast majority of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) – that Serbia cannot progress on the European path due to the collapse of democracy and rule of law in the country.
