Last week’s opening of the Strategic Dialogue between the U.S. and Serbia in Washington is an important step in the two countries’ relations, undoubtedly the biggest in decades. Nonetheless, for the time being there can be no talk of a turnabout in Serbia’s foreign policy, rather possibly of a small step toward such change. The regime led by Aleksandar Vucic will continue its foreign policy balancing act, but will in the future predominantly focus on two “pillars” – Washington and Beijing, which will be a challenge of sorts for Belgrade, as the U.S. and China are the world’s biggest rivals.
