Explaining why he has postponed the Novi Sad rally, Vucic said that he does not want to jeopardize anyone’s life for the sake of political promotion and show of political strength.

Last week’s rally of the Serbian Progressive Party in Uzice, attended by Aleksandar Vucic, the leader of the ruling coalition, was overshadowed by violence against government opponents, who had gathered to express their revolt over the event. More severe violence could potentially occur in Novi Sad, which Vucic is planning to visit on Sept. 4, despite the opposition of many locals who have said that he is not welcome in their city.
