United Group announced on March 5 that it had acquired the Croatian mobile operator Tele2 for EUR220 million.

"For us, the acquisition of Tele2 Hrvatska is an important step in the further strengthening of our position as the leading telecommunication and media operator in South East Europe," said the executive director of United Group, Victoriya Boklag, the statement reads.

She stressed that United Group would continue to expand its operations in countries of the European Union and through acquiring new markets, such as the arranged acquisition of Vivacom, the biggest telecommunication operator in Bulgaria.

The head of the Managing Board of Tele2 Hrvatska, Viktor Pavlinic, said that the company had a million users last year for the first time, and ended 2019 with more than 200 million euros in income. He believes that joining United Group would enable the company to become "an even stronger market player."
