Serbian Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo on March 27 laid wreaths at the memorial plaque for the Chinese journalists killed outside the former Chinese embassy building in Belgrade, bombed during the 1999 NATO bombing campaign.

Saying that the Chinese people stood by Serbia in the hardest moments during the NATO aggression, Vulin noted that the Serbian and Chinese peoples were together again and fighting an invisible enemy.

Chen Bo said that the history of relations between the two countries showed that Serbia and China had a friendship as strong as steel, adding that this meant sharing the good and the bad. "In times when we face great challenges, we must be together and help each other," the Ministry quoted the ambassador as saying.

The members of a Chinese medical team who have come to Serbia to help curb the coronavirus epidemic also laid wreaths at the memorial plaque for the killed Chinese journalists.

The Chinese embassy in Belgrade was bombed on May 7, 1999. Three Chinese journalists were killed in the attack, while 21 people were injured.
