Epidemiologist Predrag Kon on March 31 said that the imposition of a nationwide 24-hour curfew was not necessary if citizens were disciplined.
Speaking to TV N1, Kon said that a total lockdown would be triggered in case of “serious worsening of the situation,” explaining that it would mean “a rapid jump in the number of infected and deaths.”
“Theoretically and practically, it is impossible for the virus to survive under the conditions of no contact during 24 hours over a two-week period. It would be purposeful in case of a rapid increase of the number of the coronavirus cases and consequently the rise in the death toll. That would be a last resort,” Kon specified.
On March 29, President Aleksandar Vucic said he was ready to impose a nationwide lockdown if the citizens continued to ignore the recommendations not to leave their homes unless necessary.
According to the latest report from March 30, Serbia has registered 785 coronavirus cases and 16 deaths.
