Serbia's COVID-19 Case Count 2,200, Death Toll 58

Over the last 24 hours, another 292 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Serbia, while seven people died of the disease, putting the death toll at 58, the Serbian Ministry of Health said in a press release on April 6.

The statement specified that 1,192 persons had been tested since the previous announcement of figures, and that the total of confirmed infected is 2,200, 1,197 of whom are in hospital.

There are 101 Covid-19 patients on ventilators.

Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, deputy director of the Batut Institute, said that 868 health care workers had been tested for the novel coronavirus in Serbia, 160 of whom had tested positive.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said that he expected the testing rate to rise to around 1,500 per day by the end of the week, noting that there would be particular focus on health care workers, especially those who had had contact with patients or were exhibiting symptoms.

At 876, Belgrade has the largest case count, followed by Nis, at 90, Novi Sad, 86, Cuprija, 83, Valjevo, 59, Krusevac, 55, Cacak, 32, Leskovac, 30, Kragujevac, 28, Paracin, 27, Vranje, 25, Zajecar, 25, Jagodina, 24, and Pancevo, 22.
