A Total of 1,200 Patients in Nis Clinical Center and Temporary Hospitals

Branislav Nedimovic, the Serbian minister of agriculture and head of the Crisis Headquarters for the Nisava and Toplica counties, said on April 18 that in the Clinical Center in Nis and in the temporary hospitals in that city and the Niska Banja spa, 1,200 persons whose infection with COVID-19 has been confirmed, are currently hospitalized.

In a statement for the RTS public service Nedimovic said that the infected medical workers and army and police members are as of April 17 being admitted to the Radon Institute in Niska Banja, since there is no more room in the Zelengora temporary hospital.

Nedimovic added that 156 people are hospitalized in these facilities in Niska Banja. “A new testing is now pending so that the people who have recovered could be released.”

According to the April 17 data, 110 people have died so far from the virus, while there is a total of 5,690 infected in Serbia.

Pulmologist Branislav Nestorovic has said that the campaign of curing the patients with convalescent plasma has begun, after several weeks of preparation. He added that there are about 500 cured people, who can donate their blood for the purpose.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in the evening on April 17 that the Galenika pharmaceutical company had begun producing chloroquine, the medication that is being used in treating those affected by COVID-19.
