Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov concurred on May 18 that an agreement on easing border crossing restrictions would be one of the key elements for inciting business activities, especially in the area of tourism, after their prolonged suspension due to the coronavirus epidemic.

In a telephone conversation ahead of a video conference of the High Council for Cooperation Between Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece, devoted to the elimination of the epidemic's economic consequences, Vucic and Borisov insisted that in that case the implementation of appropriate epidemiological measures needed to be ensured, so that citizens' health was protected, stated the office of the Serbian president.

The statement reads that Vucic and Borisov voiced their satisfaction with the fact that "Serbia and Bulgaria are successfully fighting the coronavirus," adding that "the epidemic is being kept under control" and expressed the hope that it would soon be completely overcome.

The two leaders agreed to hold a bilateral meeting soon, expressing their joy at the fact that they would tour works on the construction of a highway from the Serbian-Bulgarian border to Sofia, the completion of which would fully connect Serbia to Asia, reads the statement.
