The Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) trade union "Sloga" warned on July 15 that the state broadcaster met the latest social tensions leaderless and unprepared, adding that the appointment of a new RTS director general was a priority for all employees.

"It has become evident time and again that when Serbia is in crisis the RTS turns out to be a national, state and social priority. We have responded to growing social tensions unprepared, this time leaderless, too, without any indication as to when the election of a new director general will be completed. We are again targeted by different interest groups, but also those to whom destruction and hatred are the only purpose of public action," the trade union said in a press release.

The organization added that the RTS was "criticized at all levels," from top-ranking state officials to "completely deplorable characters." "We are looking for a person who knows us, who is industrious and honest. We need a professional to fight for the few valuable, hardworking people who want to be independent from politics and different interests in doing their jobs. The new director should be pursuing the idea that we exist because of the people, exercising the role of a public service," the trade union explained.
