Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced in the evening on Aug. 31 that German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Serbia, but could not give the exact date of her arrival.

“I believe we will be good hosts and that we would talk and learn about Germany’s position on the Balkans,” Vucic told TV Pink in Bled, Slovenia.

The president added that the country could not advance while having Germany as an adversary, but only [having it] on its side.

On Sept. 1 the Bled Strategic Forum will begin in this Slovenian town, at which regional leaders, and Vucic among them, will participate. Leaders of other European countries and EU officials will also take part in the two-day event at which the future of Europe will be in focus.

Vucic also said that the great powers have been trying to place Serbia under their control since it gained independence, by “restraining it, while empowering all others.”
