Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on Sept. 8 that, regarding the potential new wave of migrations, Serbia was "in a specific position, not being an EU member," and that "a joint European policy must be in place" on that matter.

"Not a policy of the European Union, but a joint policy of Europe, because Serbia is on a transit route, and migrants come to Serbia from EU countries, in order to proceed further to other EU countries. They do not wish to stay in Serbia, but they do enter from EU countries," Brnabic said in a statement to the media in Budapest after the joint session of the governments of Hungary and Serbia.

She pointed out that Serbia was already contemplating options in the event of that common policy not being in place, and that she was pleased that coordinated action in that case was already being discussed with Hungary.

Brnabic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban signed in Budapest the Agreement on cordial relations and strategic partnership between the two countries, it was announced on the Serbian government's portal. The relevant ministers also signed seven documents on cooperation in the fields of commerce, agriculture and diplomatic relations.
