Serbian Ambassador to the U.S. Marko Djuric said on Nov. 12 that relations with that country were improving, adding that there were "many pragmatic people" in Washington as well as some who had inherited the negative perception of Serbia from the 1990s. However, as he put it, "We are talking with both [groups] and I am happy with how that is going."

"We are working with both parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, we will never fall into the trap of supporting only one option in America. We are working toward strengthening our relations and having reliable friends in key positions in the U.S. administration in five years," Djuric told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS).

He pointed out that "the number of members of our caucus has gone up considerably, as much as severalfold relative to certain periods."

"The group of Serbia's friends in Congress is growing day in, day out. I expect that we will get an opportunity to see that by the end of this year, when a congressional letter of support to Serbia and cooperation with Serbia, in the context of the fact that this year we are marking 140 years of relations between the two countries, will be supported by incomparably more members of Congress than the letters which, for example, affirm certain positions of Pristina or certain businessmen here from Belgrade," said Djuric.

It is important that the U.S. administration, business and the general public get a message from the elected legislative branch that cooperation with Serbia is something that is also in the U.S.' interest, added the ambassador.
