Branka Stamenkovic, the presidential candidate of the Sovereigntists coalition, has said that her “political activity is supported by a large number of people who usually do not vote in elections because, so far, they haven’t felt that their interests were represented by anyone on the political scene.”

“Massive turnout and a change of attitude in at least 10 percent of pro-regime voters are the only way were can change the current president [Aleksandar Vucic],” Stamenkovic told the March 24 edition of the Politika daily.

The Sovereigntists candidate, who is also an official of the Enough is Enough party, further stated that it is “lamentable that the current president, just like former president Boris Tadic, has abused his office to usurp the authority of the government.”

“Both of them neglected the president’s most essential job: to rally the people and create unity around the most important state institutions and national interests – because the strength of that unity also determines the strength with which Serbia can successfully resist outside pressures,” Stamenkovic stressed.

She concluded by saying that another “great obstacle” that prevented Vucic and Tadic from appropriately performing their presidential role was their regrettable, shared “practice of using the office of president to further the interests of their own parties.”
