Serbia to Open Another Two Accession Chapters

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on June 26 that she expected the European Union to open Chapter 9 in the negotiations with Serbia, about financial services, on June 27.

"It seems that only that chapter will be opened tomorrow (June 27). The EU is in a specific situation, not just because of its own internal challenges and reforms, but also because the European Commission and the European Parliament had not been formed. That is why this (opening of Chapter 9) is good news for Serbia," Brnabic stated.

The prime minister told reporters that Serbia was close to opening at least three other chapters.

Brnabic stressed that Serbia must focus more on closing the chapters, announcing that she would discuss this with the Serbian minister for European integration, Jadranka Joksimovic.

Commenting on the fact that 17 chapters had been opened so far and two conditionally closed, Brnabic said that "this is a success at this moment, when the EU is experiencing problems."
