Kosovo outgoing Premier Ramush Haradinaj was questioned on July 24 by the Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague as a suspect and defended himself by remaining silent, Radio Free Europe (RFE) has reported.

Shortly before 10 a.m. he entered the Specialist Chambers building.

His wife, Anita, entered the building after him, but came out of it several minutes later.

RFE also reported that former Kosovo Assembly speaker Jakup Krasniqi, who during the war in Kosovo was Kosovo Liberation Army’s spokesman and member of its general staff, also entered the building the same morning.

After the questioning Haradinaj said he did not know why he was summoned to appear before the Specialist Prosecutor and that he used his right to remain silent.

“Today I responded to the summons to appear before the Special Court as a suspect. I used my legal right to remain silent and I have fulfilled my obligation,” Haradinaj told the journalists after leaving the court building.

He said he was not told why he was summoned to The Hague.

“We asked for an explanation, but were given none. I was not given any concrete information. My role during the war was mentioned, but there was no concrete information. The prosecutors say this is their prerogative,” Haradinaj said in a statement given in Serbian Deutsche Welle published on its Facebook page.

Haradinaj resigned from the post of Kosovo premier on July 19, after being summoned to appear before The Hague-based Kosovo Specialist Chambers for questioning.
