Plenkovic: Croatia Has Clear Position on Holocaust, Jasenovac's Victims

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic condemned the Aug. 22 attack on the guests of a cafe near Knin who were watching the Red Star football match, as an act of individuals.

Plenkovic denied that the incident was the result of a climate in the Croatian society, of inciting violence against the Serbs.

"I see no such climate. These are individual acts of persons who should be sanctioned," Plenkovic told reporters, as conveyed by the N1 Television.

The Croatian government, "quite the opposite," seeks to reduce the polarization and exclusiveness in the society, and to prevent "those who wish for tension in the society, and those are many," Plenkovic stated.

He underscored that the perpetrators of such acts had to be punished, because that is the best message and the solution to the problem.

"There are always deviants. Heaven forbid that being the rule – that would be an extremely alarming circumstance for Croatia. That is why I said that minorities have to be part of the parliamentary majority in Croatia, to exercise their rights. That is not a problem, but a plus for the majority nation. If we protect the rights of the minorities, we will more easily advocate the rights of our minority in those countries," Plenkovic stated.
