Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said at a Sept. 2 meeting with Peter Beyer, a Bundestag member of the ruling Christian Democratic Union of Germany, that he expected Germany and the European Union (EU) to support a compromise in Serbia's normalization talks with Kosovo.

Vucic and Beyer discussed relations between Serbia and Germany, the situation in the region and Serbia's EU accession, the Office of the Serbian President reported.

The Office quoted the president as saying that Serbia was fully committed to the normalization of relations with Pristina, searching for a compromise acceptable to both sides.

"We expect such a solution, if we arrive at one, to be supported by Germany, the EU and the international community at large," Vucic said.

The Serbian president also said he expected Germany to continue to campaign within the Union for "Serbia's reforms to be properly valued."

The German MP said that "the EU has no future without the integration of the Western Balkans," and that regional stability and economic power were in the best interest of Germany.
