President Aleksandar Vucic has said he is happy after a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in New York, adding there is no doubt that Europe wishes to see the problem between Belgrade and Pristina solved and that Germany is insisting on a resolution.

“The plan and idea of French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Merkel is to organize a regional meeting and to start intense talks of the Serbs and the Albanians,” Vucic said.

He added that Merkel was a great leader and had been demonstrating that with the attention she had been paying to small countries, but that Europe was her project and she wished stability and a lasting Europe, which was why she “will invest all the effort into preserving the stability and will demand from us to talk until we find a solution.”

Vucic further said he asked Merkel to visit Serbia and she agreed to pay a visit by 2021.

Before the opening of the general debate at the 74th session of the U.N. General Assembly, Vucic briefly met with Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
