On Oct. 3 Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that Serbian-Russian relations were at an historical high and that they were characterized by cooperation on all levels.
"It is known that Serbia and Russia have exceptional, centuries-long, firmly-rooted friendly relations. The history of our people remembers even more than that. It does not forget the spiritually also close ties developed long ago which implied a willingness to help one another at the most difficult of times," Dacic said opening a science conference, Serbian-Rusisan Relations in the Era of Major Political Changes (the end of the 18th and start of the 20th century)."
Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences president Vladimir Kostic said that Russian and Serbian relations were often misinterpreted. "I think that we do not understand the world around us too well, and I'm afraid that this world does not understand itself," Kostic said.
Academician Mihailo Vojvodina said that Russian-Serbian relations in earlier times were focused on due to the strategic importance of the Balkans, and because Serbia wanted to liberate itself from the Turks.
