The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Serbia company has requested an additional 80 days of paid leave for its workers in Kragujevac hence the leaves of absence which were supposed to last until May 18 will likely be extended, the company’s independent union told BETA.

Union chief  Zoran Markovic has said that he expects the paid leaves to be extended given the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic and the unstable epidemiological situation around Europe. He said that the Kragujevac plant had requested permission from the Ministry of Labor for 80 more days of paid leaves given that it had used the 45 days allowed by law.

”We believe that with these additional paid leaves the company will actually be covering all further work cessations caused, above all, by the unstable coronavirus situation, as well as other reasons. We hope that these new paid leaves will not be used in a single stretch and that we will have workdays in the factory meanwhile,” Markovic said.

He also said that the additional 80 days of paid leaves plus 15 days of collective summer vacation time actually covered the break until Sept. 30. He added that the factory’s union was consulted in reaching the decision to ask for an extension.
