United Group

On Aug. 18, the United Group announced that it had received permission from the European Commission (EC) to acquire the Greek Forthnet telecommunications company. The United Group said that it had received permission for buying Forthnet according to the EU’s rules on protecting competition.

Before the process is over, a Greek commission for telecommunications and postal services will also weigh in. A statement said that the latest move by United Group, which also owns the SBB company in Serbia and its EON and Total TV services, the Sport Klub TV and Nova S and N1 television stations and websites, which is part of its growth strategy, confirmed its leading role in the South Eastern European media and telecommunications market.

After acquiring Forthnet, the United Group will have over 10 million users and 11,000 employees, while its yearly income will surpass EUR1.7bn.

The statement recalled that this was United Group’s third biggest acquisition since the BC Partners investment fund took over a majority stake in the group in March 2019.
