After a six-day break, workers of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Serbia returned to the factory on Nov. 21 and resumed manufacturing of the 500L vehicle, representatives of the factory union told Beta News Agency, adding that there will be more non-working days by the end of 2019.

Independent Union leader Zoran Markovic said that the workers would finish 2019 with more than 130 non-working days in total. He went on to say that another longer hiatus was expected in mid-December, because it had become common practice in the past few years, starting from 2010, for the FCA workers not to work from St. Nicholas Day, Dec. 19, to the New Year.

According to Markovic, the reason for paid leave is always the same - harmonizing manufacturing with demand, because the company doesn't want to manufacture vehicles to be kept "in the warehouse."

"Yes, the workers are very concerned because of the frequent breaks, but this announced fusion of the FCA and PSA gives us hope. We expect that what has been announced at the global level will be respected, i.e. that factories will not be shut down and workers will not be laid off.

We expect that this unification of automotive giants, i.e. manufacture, will have a positive impact on the future of operation of the Kragujevac factory, too, and better use of capacities," said Markovic.
