Gordana Janjicijevic (BETAPHOTO/EMBASSY OF FRANCE IN SERBIA)
Gordana Janicijevic, a public prosecutor at Serbia’s Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, has been reappointed as Serbia’s liaison prosecutor at Eurojust this week. Due to a failure to extend her term, cooperation between Serbia and Eurojust had been suspended since March 1. The failure was strongly criticized because it effectively halted work on more than 200 cases, while this week’s decision to reappoint Janicijevic has been interpreted as an attempt by Aleksandar Vucic’s authorities to placate the European Union (EU) following a negative opinion by the Venice Commission regarding recent amendments to Serbia’s judicial laws.
