Danijel Sinani, dean of the University of Belgrade’s School of Philosophy, was back into the spotlight last week after he was physically attacked in downtown Belgrade. Critics of President Aleksandar Vucic’s government blame the authorities for the attack on professor Sinani, the target of pro-government media for years. They are indirectly culpable at the very least, having fostered for years a setting in which such an attack would be not only possible, but even desirable. The authorities being behind the assault is a likely scenario, too, as opponents are to be intimidated right at the start of the election campaign.
