During a state of emergency in Serbia, introducing restricted movement to curb the spread of COVID-19, cargo transportation functions without major problems, as more than 20,000 cargo trucks have passed thought Serbia since the emergency measures were introduced, Serbian Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said on March 23.

"Between March 15, when a state of emergency was declared, and March 22, 20,802 trucks entered Serbia, 9,529 carrying supplies for Serbia and 11,273 in transit," Minister Mihajlovic said, adding that she's in permanent contact with relevant departments in the neighborhood and other states, so that transportation could develop as usual.

Truck drivers are exempted from the emergency measures, and are subject to regular check-ups. When they reach a destination, Serbian drivers need to contact sanitary inspectors and are quarantened until the next drive.

As to trucks in transit, they need to leave the territory of Serbia within 12 hours after they have crossed into the country, the ministry said in a release.
