A cargo aircraft from China bringing more than 40 tons of urgent medical equipment and equipment for combating COVID-19 procured by Serbia landed at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport late on March 26, while the EU covered the cost of air transportation, the EU Info Center stated on March 27.

The medical aid and equipment coming from China is the first portion of a large package containing a comprehensive set of measures for meeting Serbia's various needs during the crisis. The flight, organized through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), enables the urgent supply and delivery of medical equipment and supplies.

This flight is the first visible result of aid from the total EUR93 million package, which the EU had announced as urgent, short-term and medium-term aid to Serbia in the fight against COVID-19.

"The virus knows no borders and we all face the same challenge and must fight this enemy together... As we mourn the death of thousands of citizens in the EU, we are determined to stand by Serbia and its citizens in full and concrete solidarity, responding to current and long-term needs," Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Sem Fabrizi has said.

The EUR93 million package for combating COVID-19 includes financial aid of up to EUR15 million for urgent needs in the health care system and 78 million for economic recovery, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

According to the latest, March 26 report, there are 457 coronavirus cases in Serbia with seven deaths.
