The Alliance for Serbia warned on March 30 that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's statement that the country's curfew might be extended to 24 hours to stop the spread of coronavirus was "extremely dangerous" as it could spread panic among citizens.

Having noted that not a single state has endorsed such a strict measure, the Alliance said that it was "yet another strategy to create panic in order to push under the carpet all the mistakes made since the pandemic broke out, including a call for a shopping tour in Milan, a decision to bring together 100,000 people to collect signatures to support the ruling party at the height of the pandemic, a move to organize a rally in Valjevo and other irresponsible decisions."

"No one can introduce measures to deny citizens the right to food and water. Any measure has to take into account basic human needs, and cannot create additional consequences aside from those created by the coronavirus outbreak," the Alliance said in a press release.

The opposition Alliance urged the president "not to abuse the state of emergency to spread fear among the citizens," and to "let experts handle the crisis."

The Serbian president said on the eve on March 29 that he was prepared to introduce a 24-hour curfew if the Serbs continued to ignore a recommendation to stay at home.
