Nine people have died in Serbia as a result of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the toll to 94 since the outbreak of the pandemic, according to an April 14 statement.

Batut Institute deputy director Darija Kisic Tepavevic has said that a total of 2,440 people had been tested for the virus in the past 24 hours of whom 411 were positive.

A total of 3,006 people have been hospitalized of whom 131 are on ventilators. Kisic Tepavcevic also said that a total of 4,936 health workers had been tested so far of whom 533 were positive.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon has said that he was "deeply" affected by a Serbian Orthodox Church plea regarding movement during Easter and that in some way "this completely annuls all of our efforts so far to save lives."

Commenting on a Facebook post in which he announced that he might withdraw from the coronavirus expert team over the criticism that he and the other members of his team have been facing, Kon said that he wrote that because "the level of arrogance has surpassed the acceptable."

He said that he discussed his possible withdrawal with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, and that he received "strong" support from the authorities without which, he said, "we would not have been in the position to do anything except talk."
