Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on April 15 that it is the duty of the government to protect the lives of citizens and that there could be no exceptions to the restriction of movement during the upcoming Easter holidays.

Following his meeting with Serb Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik, Vucic said he is sure that all television stations will be interested in broadcasting the Easter service. This would enable the people to hear the word of God and pray, while staying safe at their homes.

“I see this is how the representatives of our Church are acting in some of the countries in the region and on other continents. I would like to see that happen here as well. We will obey the law, while not obstructing the priests and bishops in performing their services,” Vucic said, adding that, because of the holiday, the curfew will be extended the coming weekend. It will start on Friday at 5 p.m. and will end the following Tuesday at 5 a.m..

Talking about the coronavirus situation, Vucic said he had received some encouraging news the previous day, and that it is vital that the citizens remain disciplined during the coming weekend.

Vucic also said that he talked with Dodik about joining forces in fighting the pandemic. The president also recalled that Serbia had already helped Republika Srpska in many ways, allowing the export of scarce goods and by sending medical and protective equipment to Bosnia and Republika Srpska.
