Foreign Minister and Socialist Party of Serbia leader Ivica Dacic announced on April 24 that elections in Serbia would be held "in the shortest possible time allowed by the Constitution and laws."

"I cannot mention exact dates because talks on that have yet to be held," Dacic said in an interview with the Politika newspaper, when asked whether citizens would go to the polls in late June, as the public had been speculating for the past few days.

Dacic added that the epidemic had interrupted the electoral process at the very beginning.

"As you know, elections had already been called and electoral activities had started, but were stopped by the danger of infection spread. Therefore, it is our constitutional obligation to immediately, as soon as conditions for that are in place, continue the electoral process with the deadlines otherwise envisaged by the Constitution and laws," he said.

The minister said that none of the participants in the elections would be damaged or deprived of anything and would have quite enough time to present their policies to citizens.
