Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on May 6 that Serbia "can open its borders," but added that "no other state border has been fully opened as yet."

Minister Dacic explained to Serbian MPs that all states required some kind of a health certificate or entry permit during the coronavirus pandemic.

"The EU road map does not provide for the opening of borders to be among initial measures. Some states do not plan to open their borders before June," the minister said.

Dacic went on to say that the citizens living in a narrow border area, up to 50 kilometers away from the national border, and owned a piece of land "on the other side" of it, could cross it without any restrictions in terms of isolation or self-isolation.

The Serbian foreign minister said that only Hungary had started to implement that strategy, adding that talks with Bulgaria were underway and that the country might also follow suit. "It has been very difficult with Bosnia and Herzegovina. We expected it to be easier, as a large number of people on the Serb and Bosniac sides are in the same situation," Dacic said.
