EU Delegation to Serbia chief Sem Fabrizi and Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said in Belgrade on May 9 that solidarity and togetherness were the way for Europe to beat the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

At a celebration of Europe Day and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Schuman Declaration at the Belgrade Botanical Garden, Fabrizi said it was in the Western Balkans and Serbia that the European Union had shown its lasting commitment to its principles of solidarity and cooperation during the ongoing crisis.

"We have set aside EUR3.3 billion in economic and medical assistance for the Western Balkans, we have opened negotiations with two more countries in the region, we have pledged to jumpstart economic recovery in the coming months. Serbia has shown the same solidarity toward EU citizens," Fabrizi said.

Brnabic said the decisions made by leaders 70 years ago could serve as guidelines today for responding to the current crisis with community and solidarity.

"That is why Serbia has donated two million euros to the common fight against the coronavirus. It is because of that very community that Serbia sent planes with medical aid to our friends in Italy, why it strove at every moment of the crisis to help everyone in the region, putting all differences aside," Brnabic said.
