Dveri Movement leader Bosko Obradovic has said that he will be back on the stairs in front the National Assembly on May 11 at 7 a.m., after having spent the night in the MPs office, as previously announced, and that he will continue with the hunger strike.

In a statement for BETA, Obradovic dismissed the Serbian Progressive Party’s claims that he ate food inside the assembly, recalling that it is impossible to bring anything into the building without the security service knowing about it, adding that they can “bare witness” that it is a lie that he carried food inside.

“It’s hard to tell at this moment how long [the hunger strike] will last. It’s certain that I have to keep my word – that I’m here, that I’m on a hunger strike [and will be] as long as my health holds and until all that I’ve demanded has been granted,” Dveri leader said.

According to him, his is “a rather reasonable and constructive cause – a dialogue between the authorities and the opposition,” which, he added, cannot be arranged by the Serbian Progressive Party leader, Aleksandar Vucic, as he no longer has any authority for the opposition nor can he be trusted.

When asked about the reactions of other Alliance for Serbia’s members to his call to actively boycott the elections, he said he expects “a positive” response because “by sitting at home and being silent one cannot change a thing.”

“I was visited by Zeljko Veselinovic, Dragan Djilas, Borko Stefanovic, who offered their support, and the Alliance for Serbia’s chairman, Janko Veselinovic, said that he will come on May 11,” Obradovic told BETA. He added that he did not invite anyone to join, let alone go on a hunger strike with him, but that he is calling on everyone to join the active boycotting campaign to postpone the elections, recalling that they are all duty-bound to act in unison.
