The deputy director of the Institute of Public Health Batut, Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, on May 12 said that easing lockdown restrictions could lead to an increased number of COVID-19 cases, noting that it would depend on the citizens and their behavior.
She said that the virus was still circulating, but that warm weather was generally reducing the possibility of transmitting the infections that spread through droplets.
“We have also been reporting a continued drop in the number of the coronavirus cases, which is good, but the virus is still present. In a number of countries, easing lockdown measures has resulted in a mild rise of the COVID-19 cases,” she noted.
Speaking about people’s behavior after easing lockdown restrictions, she said that the risk was to be assessed by each person individually.
“Wearing face masks outdoors is not necessary, particularly if we walk with our family members. Masks should be worn in enclosed spaces with a large number of people, such as postal offices, banks, public transport, while it is mandatory to wash hands and not touch eyes or mouth. Even with the virus present on our hands, we cannot get infected unless we touch our eyes,” Kisic Tepavcevic specified.
