Tanja Fajon, the chair of the European Parliament (EP) Delegation to EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC), urged Serbian political forces and citizens on May 18 to join the country's election process.

"As said recently in a joint statement with a Member of the European Parliament, Vladimir Bilcik, we urge all political forces and citizens to join the election process so as to ensure the broadest possible representation and promote different ideas and contributions strengthening pluralism and solidifying democracy," Fajon said in a comment for the Radio Free Europe (RFE).

The EP official underlined that those were "the chief goals the authorities should follow," promising that the European parliamentarians would continue to monitor closely the conditions surrounding the parliamentary polls.

Fajon has also recalled that the health and safety of Serbian citizens should be the government's priority during the election campaign and the election process, since the election is scheduled for June, underlining that the restrictions applying to the campaign because of the Covid-19 pandemic have made the role of the media more important than ever.
