There were no new coronavirus deaths in Serbia in the past 24 hours while 3,427 people were tested and 34 new cases were registered, a May 26 statement said.

Only 11 patients are on ventilators, while the total number of hospitalized patients is 631. A total of 6,067 people have been cured of the disease.

The fatality rate in Serbia is 2.13 percent while 11,227 people have been infected since the outbreak of the virus.

Batut Health Institute deputy director Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said on May 26 that fewer people than before had been tested as the number of those with symptoms of the virus had gone down.

Kisic Tepavcevic told the Serbian Broadcasting Company that this was an indication that the epidemic was abating.

On May 26 Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said that the epidemiological situation in Vranje and Leskovac was under control as well as that the number of new infections had gone down. Loncar stressed that "we have entered a phase in which it is our responsibility, and we have to continue monitoring the situation, not just at home but in the region too."
