Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said late on June 4 that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump was better for Serbia than any U.S. Democratic Party government because it did not consider the Kosovo issue closed.

"The Democrats consider the Kosovo issue closed, while the Trump administration believes it isn't closed and that there should be a compromise. We contributed to that by campaigning for countries to withdraw their recognition of Kosovo and by building up relations with certain nations, like Germany," Dacic said on Pink 3 TV.

Dacic also said Serbia should be more active in supporting Trump, and motivate Serbs in the U.S. to vote for the sitting president at the Nov. 3 election there.

Commenting on the possibility that Serbia may halt the campaign for withdrawal of recognition of Kosovo, Dacic said Serbia would forge on as long as lobbying for Kosovo's membership in international organizations goes on.

The Serbian foreign minister said it was in Serbia's interest, primarily economic, to join the European Union, if it can protect state and national interests.

"We shouldn't go into the EU at the cost of giving up Kosovo, recognizing the independence of Kosovo or the abolishment of Republika Srpska," Dacic said.
