Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic has said that the opposition parties rallied round the idea of boycotting elections did not understand that it was the citizens, not parties or politicians, that imparted legitimacy to an election.

"The citizens make their choice based on ideas and platforms, and the proponents of boycott haven't put in the effort to offer anything more than 'boo (Serbian President Aleksandar) Vucic.' If you want to go in for politics seriously, you have to do more than that," Brnabic told the June 12 issue of the Blic daily.

She underscored that it must not be overlooked that the June 21 elections in Serbia will have 21 tickets participating, which she said was more than in 2012 or 2014.

On the topic of the Kosovo issue, Brnabic said there had been a lot of "haggling" about the date for resolving the issue, that the deadlines had expired and that compromise was not "a millimeter closer" than one year ago.

"Belgrade is a stable and predictable partner, but that in itself isn't enough to find a solution. As long as Pristina is trapped in the past and refusing to accept reality for what it is, we won't be able to move ahead and do some good for the future," she said.
