A journalist of the Nova.rs portal, Ana Lalic, is one of 30 coronavirus "information heroes," the Reporters Without Borders reported on June 15, having published a list of journalists, media outlets and whistleblowers who contributed to saving lives, sometimes suffering serious consequences.

The "information heroes" come from all continents, and have distinguished themselves in the fight for the freedom of the press. "The same day a law took effect making the authorities the sole legal source of information about the coronavirus in Serbia, Ana Lalic was arrested and was held overnight for a story that reported complaints by medical personnel about the lack of personal protective equipment," the organization said in a release.

The Reporters Without Borders went on to say that the authorities ended up recognizing the accuracy of her story and dropped all charges against her, repealing the law as well. Yet the reporter for the Nova.rs news portal continues to be the target of a brutal hate campaign and threats on social media.
