Epidemiologist and Crisis Headquarters member Branislav Tiodorovic (Beta/Serbian government/Slobodan Miljevic)

Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic on June 23 said that despite an increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases in Serbia, there was no rationale for reintroducing a state of emergency under current conditions.

He specified that countermeasures should be either tightened or eased individually in local communities, depending on the percentage of new cases. “This is an epidemic of particular importance, a part of a global pandemic, and we have to act accordingly,” Tiodorovic told TV Prva.

Speaking about possible restrictions on indoor gatherings, such as cafes and restaurants, he stressed that restrictions should not insist on the number of people, but on a two square meter distance between all occupants.

On June 23, the Covid-19 response team is to decide on possible new countermeasures amid an increasing number of new cases.

According to media reports, the team is expected to declare face masks mandatory for public transport and retails and restrict the number of people for indoor and public gatherings.
